My little Diplomat

You might have heard about this story from me over and over again. And because of this story, some call me Bulek like what my nephew always does. Yes, my nephew calls me Bulek. Bulek means auntie or younger sister of your father or mother. Somehow, I learn one thing from my nephew and that is being diplomatic and here is the story.

I came home last December after for a number of years I had not met them. It was a wonderful times with my nephew and my niece from my uncle’s son. I was observing my nephew’s behaviours. He seemed to be reluctant to play with his sister. He even called his sister Bakpao, since she’s got round and full cheeks like Bakpao.

So, one evening my uncle, my nephew and I sat on the veranda. My nephew’s name is Khrisna and he was around 7 years old if I am not mistaken. I asked Khrisna if he liked having sister. So he answered, “Well you see I am tired. Mom and Dad always ask me to bring my sister’s stuff, teaching her lessons and even to open the door for her. I am tired!”

“Well, it means you’re stronger and cleverer than your sister. Look at Aunt Arie, she’s got 2 younger brothers and one younger sister and she’s happy with that”, said I.

He paused for a while from sucking his thumb and embracing his favorite small blanket. “You see Bulek, I have got a friend and he’s got a brother. Do you know what his younger brother did to his bird? He killed his bird”.

I was about to ask more questions yet he was saved by his grandma. He was called to have his dinner and the conversation was over.

Now, I realized that we have been having a diplomatic. He did not want to say whether he liked or did not like of having sister. But he explained in such a way that he expected for us to understand that he’s not so keen on having sister. Right, Khrisna?
